Judasari

Description

"In my left hand I hold thirty pieces of silver. In my right hand I hold a rope. I am the necessary evil. I am Judasari."
The world may be full of magic, but there will always exist those who see magic as a serious threat that should not be trifled with. These people often find employ as Judasaris, those who cannot fully grasp magic but nevertheless have become sensitive to it. Judasari are typically the type who believe that the ends justify the means, so many have a rather negative reputation even amongst those they strive to protect. Judasari are typically surreptitiously trained by agents of the Inquisition and, ironically enough, may have minor magic powers of their own. Many suspect that they have had dark runes implanted into their body without their knowledge that grant them their powers.

Abilities:

Magic Dampening:
Judasaris somehow naturally interfere with the flow of magic around them. At first this interference is minor with a short range, but a Judasari's powers grow with experience. Magic dampening increases the casting time of Warlocks, reduces the Sorceror's ability to draw upon latent magical energy, dampens the effectiveness of an Alchemist's spellcasting, and even reduces a Necromancer's control over its minions. Magic that flows from within, however, such as a Sorceror's internal energy, an Acolyte's abilities, or a Seer or Mentalist's powers are unaffected.

Initially, the Magic Dampening field has a range of 5 meters and has these effects:
-Latent magical uptake speed is decreased by 10%
-Warlock casting time is increased by 10%
-Warlock overall spell effectiveness is decreased by 10%
-Alchemist spell effectiveness is decreased by 10%
-Necromancer's sphere of influence is decreased in range by 10%
-Necromancer's maximum amount of minions raised decreased by 1 (to a minimum of 1- for every 10%, the necromancer's max is reduced by 1).

After every quest, a Judasari may choose to raise the effectiveness of its magic dampening by 5% or to increase the range of magic dampening by 1 meter. Magic dampening cannot be turned on or off by the user though it can at least be somewhat controlled- a Judasari may reduce their innate dampening to half of its normal power at will. Conversely, a Judasari may focus their field entirely on one target to double the power of his or her magic dampening.

Magical Item Interference:
The Judasari's abilities can eventually be honed to the point where the Judasari may interfere unconsciously with things to a far greater degree than would be expected by the hunter's innate magical dampening. Some have theorized that their field loses effectiveness against things with a will- but many magical items lose this will. After 5 quests, magical items will cease to function properly unless it has already imparted some sort of natural curse. This means that, amongst other things, alchemists may not spellcast properly, Warlocks will find their written spells useless, and a magical sword may become just another chunk of metal. This, however, works both ways for the Judasari.

Magic Bloodhound:
Once a Judasari runs across a magical signature, the Judasari can track down the magic-user unerringly until they find them. Judasaris have been known to follow their prey across the world for years.

Alignment Hunt:
Know your enemy. The Judasari may specialize like a Sorceror, but without all that mucking about with studying. The Judasari that specializes in an alignment gains a 50% bonus to their Magic Dampening and Magical Resistance against that alignment. However, Alignment Hunt is only unlocked after 3 quests, and the Judasari can only pick an alignment that he has encountered for more than 1 quest. The Judasari may only change target alignments by spending a quest recalibrating his specialty, during which he loses all current Alignment Hunt bonuses. The Judasari experiences no penalties when encountering other magical alignments.

Permanent Alignment Hunt:
If a Judasari has spent 5 straight quests with the same alignment chosen for Alignment Hunt, they may opt to make it permanent. A permanent Alignment Hunt gives the Judasari a 100% bonus to their Magical Dampening and Magical Resistance against that alignment.

Qualities:

Weapons Proficiency:
Judasaris tend to be passably skilled with clubs and other blunt weapons, the better to interfere with a mage's concentration. They are nowhere near as capable as combat job classes but still have SOME training.

Magical Resistance:
A Judasari is naturally capable of resisting magical damage and effects. At first this resistance is minor, but as the Judasari gains more experience, they become ever more resistant. After ten quests, a Judasari may even be able to shrug off attacks from a Tier 2 sigil.

Vague Magical Sight:
Judasaris can barely see magic at work- usually as wispy contrails of color matching the magic’s alignment.

Wardwalk:
Judasaris can naturally wardwalk through any ward short of a White or Black aligned Tier 2 sigil.

Vestigial Black Alignment:
Nobody's sure how a Judasari becomes what they are, but many speak in hushed whispers about strange rituals performed by the Inquisition that even the Judasari never truly remembers. Judasaris always therefore carry with them a vestigial black alignment.
