Marksman/Archer

Description

The world of modern warfare has gone from a chivalrous melee affair to, long range combat. Since the middle ages the bow and arrow has been a powerful force on the battlefield, and in modern times warfare has shifted toward the use of guns.

This class can actually be used one of two ways. Either as a Marksman who uses a gun, or an Archer who preffers the more traditional bow. Remember to make your choice.

Whichever your choice the Marksmen and Archers of the world are known for their prescision sharpshooting.

It should be noted the differences between the two. While a skilled archer and a marksman with a repeating weapon have roughly the same rate of fire, the archer's weapon isn't nearly so compact and thus requires more room to use. However a gun has the problems of ammunition limitations. While a bullet being smaller than an arrow can be carried in more plentiful numbers a magazine only holds so much ammunition and as such guns will need reloading. Keep in mind magazines are internal in this era and as such reloading will require each bullet to be reloaded mannualy. Arrows while they can't be carried in as large a number have no such problems with reloading and as an added bonus can be picked up after a battle to be used again later. Choose carefully.

Marksmen are one of only two classes that can start with a gun. When Marksman is chosen as a sub class, the player may start with one handgun.

Abillities:

Sharpshooting: While it's certainly a viable strategy to carpet an area in ammunition and hope to hit something, when prescision is needed this class can take a few seconds to carefully set up a shot and hit a target almost perfectly.

Weapon Maintinance: Bows and guns being more complex weapons than most have an increased chance of breaking down. As such this class has some skill in repairing minor problems with their weapons. Marksmen can fix a jammed gun, and archers can fix a broken bowstring or arrow. However more severe damage will require them to find a craftsman to repair their weapon.

Reloading/Fast firing: This isn't a special abillity like most but it is a valuable skill. With each quest completed a marksman will increase his/her speed for reloading their gun. Overall reload time will be cut by 25%. (normal reload time is 1 bullet every 2 seconds)
Archers meanwhile increase their speed of firing, cutting the time it takes to fire an arrow by 25%. Firing time varies depending on the kind of bow used. This can be done 3 times.

Multi Arrow: (archer only) Archers can, if using the right kind of bow nock and fire three arrows simultaneously. This is very useful for hitting mobile targets or doing more damage with each shot. This abillity is not available from the outset and must be unlocked. After completing one quest, two arrows can be fired, after two quests, three can be fired. Due to mechanical limitations this can not be done with crossbows. (except for crossbows built to hold multiple arrows.)

Double Gunslinging: (marksman only) The use of two guns simultaneously to get out of difficult situations, is the reason marksmen have been nicknamed "Gunslingers" by their critics, for this haphazard use of firearms. Although not as accurate as a sniping single firearm it is still much more accurate than just shooting off two guns willy nilly. This simultaneous use of two pistols or even lighter rifles can be used to gun down a multitude of foes or to take down a single very stubborn enemy. Good luck when you need to reload though. This abillity is not available from the outset and two quests must be completed to unlock it.

Final Shot: Also called the "one in a million" shot by some, and just dumb luck by others, it's remarkable how often a descicive shot is dellivered by the absolute last bullet or arrow the marksman or archer is carrying ends up being the most descicive. It's not a lucky shot but a subconcious force enacted on the projectile. The speed, power, and accuracy of the bullet or arrow all increase by a sort of magical energy placed upon them by the shooter's sheer force of will. Exactly how much is riding on the success of that one shot will influence how much the Final Shot's power is increased. In the old days there were stories of young archers in training whom saved their villaiges from marauding dragons with a single arrow that somehow found its way through the beast's heart. The marksman or archer is never aware of how exactly this works. It is recomended though not to tempt fate by wasting your ammunition for a single powerful shot. Lady luck is fickle and may frown upon those abusing her good graces.

Qualities:

Eagle eyes: Marksmen and Archers are known for having extremely keen eyesight allowing them to clearly see objects much further away than most. They also have some tallent for seeing better in low light.
