Seer



Description

There are those gifted beyond others who can look into worlds other than their own. However, there are those that can look into a dimension untouched by even some of the most powerful warlocks and sorcerors: time. Powerful seers almost break the barriers of time itself.

People with this gift have commonly been famous detectives and policemen, but others have found ample opportunity to use their gift to more nefarious ends. But they all have one thing in common: sooner or later their gifts turn their psyche inside out, twisting and torturing their souls.

Unlike Mentalists, Seers are too sensitive to time to be able to use their abilities fully in combat.

Abilities:

Meditative Trance
To ease a Seer's troubled mind, the Seer may enter a trance-like state where their mind is blank. This is best done in well-lit areas, and only when the Seer has a lot of time on his or her hands. This is a long and involved process.

Past Link
By touching an object or creature, a Seer may see briefly into the past of the target. The Seer cannot control either the topic of the vision or how long the ensuing vision lasts, but typically lasts up to five minutes before the Seer must break contact. A Seer may only perform this ability once per day safely- any additional visions tax the sanity of the Seer. Connecting with a living creature means that the Seer may share its vision, making it inadviseable to try to achieve a Past Link with the undead or planar creatures.

Present Link
By touching an object or creature, the Seer may look at events occuring in the present pertaining to the target. For instance, achieving a Present Link with the sword of a man may show the Seer what the man is doing at the moment. The Seer cannot control either the topic of the vision or how long the ensuing vision lasts, but the vision typically lasts up to a minute. Present Links are very taxing on a Seer, limiting the Seer to only one vision per day. This ability can only be achieved after completion of a quest.

Future Link
By touching an object or creature, the Seer may look at future events pertaining to the target. The future is completely nebulous, so the Seer only sees one of the many possible events that may be linked to the object. A Seer finds a Future Link almost impossible to hold for more than thirty seconds without going insane. This ability can only be achieved after completion of two quests.

Time Freeze
The most experienced Seers in the world can actually influence the flow of time around an object. Even the most powerful of Seers cannot trap a living thing, making it almost useless from a combat perspective- but can be used to preserve anything that may decompose as long as the Seer puts his or her mind to it. No objects bigger than a small chest may be frozen. This ability is only unlocked after three quests and studying from the proper book.

Levelling Up Abilities
After completion of a quest, besides any abilities that are unlocked naturally, a Seer may increase either the duration or number of visions the Seer can achieve per day for one ability.

For each levelup, the Seer may choose one of the following: The number of safe Past Link, Present Link, or Future Link visions per day may be increased by 1.
Past Link duration may be increased by a minute.
Present Link duration may be increased by 30 seconds.
Future Link duration may be increased by 15 seconds.


Qualities:

Impenetrable Mental Guard
Seers are almost immune to mental domination, hypnosis, and telepathy. They may not even willingly be dominated because they become increasingly paranoid about the state of their own minds, and will instinctively refuse access to others.

Eidetic Memory
As a side effect of their sensitive minds, Seers have incredible powers of memory. They may remember without flaw any scene they have witnessed, be it from their own personal experience or one of their visions.

Sensitive Sanity
Because of the sensitivity of their own minds to the flow of time, the character is equally as sensitive to the horrifying visions they may encounter. Their sense of reality begins to fall apart and their visions of past, present, and occasionally future merge into a horrifying nightmare world of confusion. Extra planar creatures, since they are not of this world, particularly effect their mind.
