Character Creation

To create a character you will need to give him/her the following information and post it in the character aps area of the forum. In order to register for the forum please complete the registration form, found there.

Name: The name your character is typically known by. You may also list aliases, or this in its self may be an alias. Use your most common name here as this is what players will call you.

Gender: Your gender. Remember that this RPG is set in the mid 19th century so Gender roles will be significant.

Age: Think hard about this one. Your character's age needn't match your own but it should fit with their story. For instance if your character is an experianced soldier he should probably be at least in his mid 20's.

Species: See the species list for more information. Initial classes available include halflings, zoanthropes, and humans. Your species may change during the course of the game.

Were form (zoanthropic only): The were-beast your character transforms into if you're playing a zoanthropic character. Leanings (halfling only): If you are playing a halfling list if your character is more human or more vampire/beast/wild.

Character Alignment: This will basicly describe your character's leanings. Hero (a heroic character duh) Dark (A selfish character who CAN be evil but does not HAVE to be) Neutral (no particular side but can have leanings one way or the other)

Religion: Because spirits and the supernatural are heavily involved in this game your character's choice of religion will play into his/her story. It can be a real one or fictional. There are no wrong choices just different angles to play your story from. Of course some jobs just don't go with certain religions. For instance an atheist slayer wouldn't be workable.

Job: The job system will give you two main classes and a third sub class. See Jobs list for details.

Class 1: This will define your character's personality the most. If it conflicts with class 2 in qualities class 1 will override. Class 1 will have all the qalities and abilities of the class put in this space.

Class 2: Like Class 1 you'll have the all of the abillities of this class and all qualities as long as they don't conflict with class 1.

Sub-class 3: This is more your character's passing interest or hobby. You'll gain the qualities but not the abillities of this class. In most cases the restriction on mixing combat and magic classes can be ignored for the sub-class.

Weapon of choice: You can start with a weapon of your own choosing. This however doesn't only depict what weapons you'll start with but also your primary weapon listed here will be the one you're most familliar with. That means even if you don't have classes lending to this weapon your character will still have at least a basic knowledge of how to use it.

Your weapon can't be enchanted initially or hold any special properties beyond its basic design. See weapons guide. Multiple weapons are allowed but there is a limit of three weapons. (One primary weapon and two smaller secondary weapons) It is not necessary to have three weapons however. Remember that the more weapons you carry the more you're weighed down and encumbered. Please be historically accurate. A staff member will help you research if necessary. It is not necessary to list holy weapons as your weapon if you are using a class capable of using them. They will be considered as part of your posessions. Also certain multiple weapons may be considered as a collective. For instance a collection of identical throwing weapons would be considered one as would a bow and its arrows. However two guns would not. Only classes that specifically state that they offer the use of firearms may start out with a gun however you are open to buying or finding one later. Shields are considered weapons. If you start with a gun, you will begin with 16 bullets. If you start with a bow, you will begin with 24 arrows. Your starting bullets or arrows may NOT be made of silver. Similarly large high quality two handed swords are restricted to swordsmen at the outset. Smaller short swords, cutlasses machettes, and other easy to use simple swords are not restricted. Flails are NOT restricted to only slayers however the particularly long ones are ill advised for anyone but Slayers because of the difficulty of use. All other weapons are free to use among the various classes. If you are not using a combat class it's advised to keep your weapons simple and easy to use such as bludgeons (clubs, maces, and hammers) and big knives.

Appearance: What you look like eyes, hair, clothes, hight ect. You can not create a character who starts with armor unless you play as a swordsman.

Flaws: (optional) This step is not necessary but some of you may wish to make a character more interesting by making them less than perfect. This can be most anything you imagin be it a physical dissabillity, social stigma, phobia, mental disorder, or even something as simple as being old or short. Be creative. The more your flaw inhibbits you the better the benefit you can trade it for.

You may have up to three flaws that will actually be considered toward your benefits. They will be rated as Minor, Moderate, or Major. Minor flaws consist of personality quirks that may make cooperation with teammates difficult. Moderate flaws consist of major personality flaws such as phobias, and mental disabilities, as well as physical or magical inhibitions such as the inability to use certain class abilities. Major flaws include phyysical disabilities such as a terminal illness, or handicap which would be a danger in battle. Alternately it can be a severe curse, or inability to use more than one of your class or species major abilities. You may list more than three flaws just to make your character more interesting but they will not influence your benefits beyond the first three.

Benefits: (optional) If you list a flaw you can add a little extra power to your character. Like flaws you can have up to three benefits as long as they balance with your flaws. You can trade multiple lesser flaws for fewer stronger benefits. A unique trait that lets your character do their job a bit better than an ordinary person. Like Flaws all benefits are classified as Minor, Moderate, or Major. Minor benefits would be strong personality traits such as natural leadership or charisma. Moderate benefits would be things such as physical ability enhancements such as being faster or stronger than most in one category, or magical boosts, and other similar enhancements. Major benefits would be new abilities not listed in class or abilities, or major physical or magical enhancements. Benefits can be creative but they need to make sense. If flaws and benefits can be made to make sense then it's more likely to be approved.

If you change your mind about your flaws you may update your flaws any time between when your bio is aproved and when it goes up on the main site. Once your bio has gone up on the site you may change your flaws once per quest. Please stay consistant with your story when doing so.

Backstory:

This is where your character came from and what he/she is like. Since the game is strongly story driven your backstory will need to relate to your species and class.

Your backstory will need to place you in the time frame of disharmony and not conflict with the main storyline. You can't play as any of the following.

  • An existing Castlevania character
  • A member of the Belmont clan
  • The predecessor of a later Castlevania character
  • the Decendant of an earlier Castlevania character

    However you CAN play as

  • A member of the D'Rais clan
  • A member of the Dunasty clan
  • A relative of Bram Stoker's Dracula character (such as Harker, westerna, morris ect.) as long as you aren't a direct predecessor of that character. (for instance you can't be Quincy's father but you could be his uncle)
  • Anything else you make up.

Once you've made your character profile you submit it via the message board's character submission forum. The Game Master will review it and if it's accepted give you aproval. Once it's aproved please repost a complete bio in a single post on the "Registered Characters" forum for archiving. Please use proper grammar and spelling when writing your Bio.

In Castlevania Disharmony you are allowed to have up to three player characters at the outset and it is possible to earn more. If you have had each of your characters in at least one quest and been active for more than a year, you qualify for a fourth character. Please list in your signiture what other characters you have in order to help keep track of who controls who. If you wish you can suspend a player character into NPC status. In order to do this post in the character aps area of the message board. While in NPC mode a character can not quest, or aquire or lose money or items. You can however continue to RP with that character. If you bring this character back you will need an open spot for that character and you may need to update in order to fit with any rule changes that have occurred since suspension. As a benefit to the staff for their hard work in maintaining the site, they may have as many characters as they can actively maintain. Staffers will need to be actively running quests and RPing with their current characters before they can apply for another.

You may either create a separate board account for each of your characters or control them all from a single account. That is your choice but please be clear in either case of who you are and who else you control.

Remember that the forum is where all the activity will go on so you need to register there.

Once your character is accepted, create a sig with your basic information including name and other traits which are subject to change such as money, posessions, and skills. Other information should simply be linked to in your registered characters post. Include a link to your character's bio. If you like you can also link to an off site version of your bio if you'd like to host it yourself.

Bios are accepted on a basis of conforming with rules, historical accuracy, and accuracy to Castlevania canon. Quality in writing, spelling, and grammar will also play into your bio. Please do not write your bio in first person (unless this is a major part of your presentation), or use abreviations and internet slang. These will result in an immediate rejection. Exceptionally well written bios will be rewarded.
